ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS FOR SCHOOLS ON BARBUDA
Tuesday 31st July 2018

Work has begun on temporary classrooms to facilitate the relocation of the Holy Trinity Primary School on Barbuda for the new school year.

Six classrooms along with facilities for the principal, staff and bathrooms will be constructed to house the primary school on the premises of Low School, which is west of the former location of Holy Trinity. In addition, two classrooms will be added to the Sir Mc Chesney George Secondary School.

Contractors from Barbuda along with workers from the Barbuda Council are undertaking the work which should be completed in time for September.

So far, the Roman Catholic Church has donated some funds which will go towards the work. The classrooms will be constructed to meet specific building standards. The Holy Trinity Primary School received major damage during the passage of Hurricane Irma last year and shared the compound of the Sir Mc Chesney George Secondary when school re-started on the sister isle in January this year.

The government of the Dominican Republic has pledged to provide the funds to rebuild the primary school in a new location.

Meanwhile, roof repairs have been done to thirty-nine of the 54 houses damaged and were previously occupied by teachers on Barbuda. Several others are being worked on while work is yet to start on a few. This does not include houses that have been destroyed or categorized with level-four damage.
