FINALISE HURRICANE PREPARATIONS FOR BERYL
Friday 6th July 2018

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) encourages residents to bring hurricane preparedness plans to a speedy completion as Beryl is forecast to still be a hurricane when it reaches the Lesser Antilles Sunday or Monday.

Individuals are asked to get their emergency supplies in place. These include non-perishable food like canned foods, corn flakes, crackers, juices, adequate water for drinking and for other purposes, emergency light like flashlight or lamp, special infant needs, adequate prescription medicine, first aid supplies, personal hygiene items.

Efforts should also be made to secure homes, that is, get shutters on hand for windows and doors, remove loose items from the yard, re-charge appropriate equipment like cell phones, rechargeable flashlights etc. and put personal papers and other important documents in a waterproof bag or container.

Residents are urged to monitor the local media as regular updates will be provided.

As it pertains to Barbuda, NODS is advising Barbudans whose homes have been fixed to ensure that they have adequate shutters to bar up windows and doors and continue to monitor the situation.
