A & B SWEEPS THE 2014 OECS CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Antigua and Barbuda's Cyclists won 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th places at the OECS Cycling Championships.

Antigua and Barbuda cycling team’s performance at the recently held OECS Cycling Championships was highly praised by the President of the Caribbean Cycling Federation at an Executive meeting held in Suriname. President Trevor Bailey reiterated his comments made at the closing ceremony in held at the Murray Heights Hotel in St. Vincent as he praised Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation for the constant growth and improved performance in the sport of cycling and for the great tactics and team work the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling team displayed for their spectators and future cyclists. He further stated “with a proper run organization and good human resources any of the Caribbean islands can see impressive performances like what the Antigua team displayed last weekend. During last week's closing ceremony, kudos also came for the SVG Minister of Sports, Hon. Cecil McKie, Board member of the Pan American Sports Organization, Keith Joseph and Secretary General of the Caribbean Cycling Federation, Cyril Mangal.

Antigua and Barbuda dominated the 2014 OECS Cycling Championships from start to finish with an aggressive 5 man team. Tesheed Gordon led the group during the first lap then taken over by Jyme Bridges, who single handedly kept a lead and build time gap as much as 4 minutes on the main bunch. After his teammate, Robert Marsh and Andre Simon broke free from the rest of the main bunch, Bridges, Simon and Marsh regrouped at the front of the race to complete the final lap together and ended with an exciting sprint resulting with Jyme as the winner. Bridges won the OECS title in a time of 3:16.44 followed by his teammate, Robert Marsh who was 2nd in a time of 3:16.45 Marsh who was name was announced as a household name in St. Vincent was also praised for his performance, guidance and leadership of the great performance.

Antigua and Barbuda cyclists were recognized for Antigua's stellar performance at the 2014 OECS Caribbean Cycling Championships held in St. Vincent on 24th August. Reigning OECS Champion, Andre Simon had to settle for 3rd but highly complimented Jyme and Robert for a well-earned position ahead of him.

National Junior Champion, Tesheed Gordon had to settled 5th place after being out sprinted by St. Lucia's top rider, Kurt Maraj who placed 4th. Anguilla's Sherwin Osborne placed 6th in the trio sprint.

Anguilla will be the host of the 2015 OECS Championships, a country that holds cycling as the number one spectator's sport.
