2013 SHIRLEY HEIGHTS CYCLE CHALLENGE Thursday 29th August 2013
The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will be hosting its toughest race for the 2013 Cycling Season this Sunday 1st September. The Shirley Heights Cycle Challenge will take place on Sunday, starting at 9am with a new starting locating, the home for cycling, Police Recreation Grounds.
This event has the potential to become a regional invitational race, hopefully by 2014. Sunday’s event is expected to be an exciting one as the course will feature at least 5 of the most popular hills on the south eastern side of the island to include the feature challenge of the day, the Shirley heights. Added to this, the island best climbers have been preparing for this event for a showdown of the climbers.
However, Team Terminix, Vincente now included in this list of climbers of which hill climbing for his strength in the sport. But the race is clearly open to the favourites such as Robert Marsh, Jyme Bridges, last race winner, Andre Simon, Walton Francis, Garfield Henry, Ken Jackson, Marvin Spencer, Randy Simon, Omari King and others. The other classes will have their showdown with names such as Jaleel Cannonier, Conroy Thomas, Tesheed Gordon, Tristan Matthew, Ashfield Vigo, Kevinia Francis, Lindsay Duffy, Nigel Fabian and David Simmons to name a few.
Sunday’s route will take the riders from PRG up to Willikies; back down through Blackout road, up to New Field, Freetown, up to Mill Reef Gate and turn climbing Lonely Hill, back through Bethesda, Red hill, up to St. James’s gate and turn back heading through Cobs Cross, to face the challenge, Shirley heights. The riders will head to town clearing the Horseford hill and Spencer hill in Falmouth and Liberta, down through All Saints, Jonas Road unto Factory road to finish back at PRG. The ABACA Shirley Heights Cycle Challenge is expected and fun pack day this you don’t want to miss!
