ABACA 35 MILE ROAD RACE, HELD SUNDAY 13TH MARCH - RESULTS

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association hosted their 2nd race for the 2011 season on Sunday 13th March, The ABACA 35 Mile Road Race. The race got on the way at 9:30am with a control start through the city before getting on the Friars hill road where the signal was given to start racing. Neil Lloyd was the first to take the lead but not for too long as the Marvin Spencer lead the chase group back to Lloyd. A surge came from came from Robert Marsh in the Marble Hill rising only to be followed by Cliel Lefebure of Belgium and Dale Richardson, the 3 manage to establish a lead to stay away for the entire race. Unfortunately for Cliel Lefebure how suffered a puncture whilst on the break causing the Ratlers Club rider to abundant the race. Marsh and Richardson continue to do the best ride of the day to lead to the turnaround point and head home to victory. But Dale Richardson had the better of the sprint by edging Marsh to win his first race of his cycling career. Dale Richardson, Club Savoy won the ABACA 35-Mile Road Race in a time of 1:52.44.2 ahead of Robert Marsh also of Club Savoy was closely 2nd in a time of 1:52.44.4. Marvin Spencer placed 3rd despite suffering a puncture early in the race. The Rebel Racing rider placed 3rd in a time of 1:54.39. Randy Bobby Simon and Brian Lyn were 4th and 5th respectively.
 
Ken Jaro Jackson and Omari King both were unfortunate after suffering a crash in the Redhill area. The 2 was taken to the Hospital and discharged 2 hours later. The 2 was vying for 3rd & 4th spot at the time of the incident.
 
B-Class category came down to a sprint between Alvin Merrick and Devon Norris as the two came home together. But Merrick had better sprint of day to winner 30-mile B-Class event in a time of 1:52.44. Devon Norris was 2nd in a time of 1:52:47. 3rd place was captured by race favorite Xavier Henry of Club Savoy; he completed the course in a time 1:57.57. Tamiko Butler and Gilrick Pryce were 4th and 5th respectively of the B-class.
 
Tamiko easily capture the female class by winning the 30 mile event in a time of 1:43.00 ahead of Lindsay Duffy was 2nd in a time of 1:58.13.
The Beginners Class won by Tesheed Gordon of Ratlers Cycling Club, Tesheed won the 21 mile Beginners class in a time of 1:10.54 ahead of teammate and last race winner Walton Francis who was 2nd in a time of 1:13.18. Joel Phillip was 3rd in a time of 1:13.45 ahead of Tristan Matthew and Raffique Rosmin who was 4th and 5th respectively.
 
The next race will be The DGL Office Supply Circuit Race on Sunday 20th March, starting at 2:30pm. The event will take place on the circuit surround the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium at a maximum of 16 laps. The race will be run on 4 categories; A-Class, B-class, Females and beginners. A 26” Mountain Bike and $2000.00 in total cash purse is up for grabs. The event is sponsored by The DGL Office Supply and bike store on Redcliffe Street.
 
The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will be holding a general meeting on Thursday 17th March, starting at 7:30pm, Presidential Suite, Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. All members are asked to attend and be on time.
