NOTICE OF RACE

Friday 10th – Sunday 12th August 2012

1.    RULES

1.1  The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2  No national authority prescriptions will apply.

2.    ADVERTISING

2.1  Advertising will be restricted to Category C.

3.    ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
   
3.1  The regatta is open to six Caribbean countries. Each Caribbean country may enter to compete for the Caribbean Dinghy Championship.

3.2  Eligible Caribbean countries may enter by completing the attached Entry form and sending it, together with the required fee, to Antigua Yacht Club by Monday 16th July 2012.  Please also send arrival information by Monday 16th July 2012. 

Due to the limited number of slots, preference will be given to territories based on the following criteria: 1) host country; 2) the defending Champion territory will have first refusal on a slot; 3) a country with a full team; 4) the greatest history of participation in this event; 5) first come, first served.

The final decision for eligibility will be made by the Caribbean Sailing Association (‘CSA’).

3.3  All other interested teams will go on a waiting list and will be told by 23rd July 2012 if successful.

3.4  There will be one boat per class per country.

4.    CLASSES AND FEES

4.1  Classes will be as follows:

Laser Open
Laser Radial Open
Zoom 8 (sixteen and under on first day of regatta)
Optimist (eleven and under on first day of regatta)
Laser Picos – Open - 2 persons per boat.

4.2  There is an entry fee of US $220 per competitor.  This fee will include all racing, two breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday), refreshments on the water while racing, three lunches (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and two dinners (Friday and Saturday) for each competitor.  Coaches and Chaperones may pay US $150 for the above meals during the regatta.  A damage deposit of US $100 will be required of each team and will be refunded at the end of the regatta.

5.    SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

5.1  Friday 10th August, 2012:
Final registration from 09:00 to 19:00 at the AYC.
Welcoming ceremony with cocktails and dinner at AYC at 19:00.
AYC will host optional off the water activities for part of the day.
Teams may also use this day for practice sessions.

5.2   Saturday 11th August 2012 - First day of racing:
        Breakfast 07:00.  Skippers briefing 07:30.
        Morning session:  First race will not start before 09:00.
        Lunch at approximately: 12:00.
        Afternoon session:  First race will not start before 13:30.
              
5.3   Sunday 12th August 2012 - Second day of racing: 
        First race will not start before 09:00.
        Last race will not start after 12:00.
        Award Ceremony will be held at 14:00 at AYC. 

6.   EQUIPMENT

6.1  Zoom 8’s and Laser Picos will be provided by host country with complete equipment.  Laser, Laser Radial and Optimist hulls and spars will be provided.  Competitors should bring sails, blocks, lines and blades.

7.    SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

7.1  The sailing instructions will be available at final registration.

8.    VENUE

8.1  The venue will be Antigua Yacht Club.

8.2  The race area is Falmouth Harbour.

9.    THE COURSES

9.1  The courses to be sailed will be triangle and/or windward/leeward.

10.    PENALTY SYSTEMS

10.1  Rules 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gibe, is required.

10.2  Decisions of the protest committee will be final as provided in rule 70.4.

11.    SCORING

11.1  The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply.

11.2  (a) Six races are planned for  Saturday 11th August.
         (b) Three races are planned for Sunday 12th August.

12.    PRIZES

12.1  Prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each class.

13.    DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

13.1  Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race.  The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

TRAVEL

VC Bird International Airport is located on the northeast side of the island and is approximately a 30-minute drive from the Antigua Yacht Club.  Taxis and rental cars are readily available at the airport.
