CPTSA to host 9th Annual Female Football Tournament
The CPTSA is still awaiting confirmation from clubs and female football teams on their participation in the 9th Annual CPTSA Female Football Showdown scheduled for July 4th - 11th
2010, at the YASCO grounds.
The deadline for registration is June 15th.
This year, the tournament is primarily geared to showcase the young female football talents in Antigua and around the region. As such, players must be not older than 20 years of age. However, a team may field no more than three (3) over aged players.
Already, a few teams are struggling for players, since some players have been shifting allegiance. This has been the case over the years for the few female football clubs in Antigua, but this year, the question is, where have all the female players gone?
The reigning Champion, 5P’s is at the moment unsure of defending its title, since a few of the Club’s players may have found a new home in the St. Anthony’s School Football Academy.
From being one of the under-dogs, a few years ago, 5P’s made major improvement the last two seasons to become undefeated in 2009. They defeated Ottos Tigress in the Final 2 –1 through penalty kicks after a goal-less regulation & extra time. Villa Lions ended up in third place.
The CPTSA Female Football Tournament has been the only avenue in Antigua/Barbuda, at least, within the past four (4) years, for female players to exhibit their talents.
As usual sponsorship is vital to sustain this Tournament and the CPTSA must continue to give thanks to Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd., one of the sponsors, for their continued support to this
event and sports on a whole.

A few of Wings Sports Club athletes took home gold as the Antigua/Barbuda Amateur Athletic
Association staged its National Track & Field Championship on Sunday, June 6th, at the
YASCO grounds.
The Meet was declared opened with a ceremonial shot of the starter’s pistol by President of ABAAA, Dr. Rodney Williams. Also addressing the athletes and spectators was senior officer in the Ministry of State & Local Government, responsible for Sports and Special Projects, Mrs. Anne Jonas.
The Meet highlighted some of Antigua/Barbuda’s top athletes, including Daniel (Bakka) Bailey, Tahir Walsh Ayata Joseph and James Grayman.
Grabbing gold for Wings were Tahir Walsh in the U-17 Invitational 200M, Jamille Nelson in the 1500M Open, and Alisha Thomas in the Girls’ U-17 Invitational 100M.
According to one athletic enthusiast, even though there was a fairly good crowd, the Meet needed to have a little more rivalry, that is, friendly rivalry among the competing clubs to
produce more excitement.
Present at the Meet were Her Excellency, Dame Louise Lake-Tack, and Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Baldwin Spencer.
