TAMO'S FOOTBALL CAMP HOSTS ITS EASTER VACATION EDITION Friday 12th April 2013
On Tuesday 2nd April the Basil “Tamo” Allen convened his annual Football camp at the Golden Grove Playing Field. Several youngsters aged three to fifteen including a few girls were on the playing football. The atmosphere was pure energy and excitement.
Tamo’s Football camp is a free camp geared towards positive youth development in sports in the Golden Grove and surrounding community. When interviewed, Allen stated that he has a love for football and was dedicated to teaching the youths to play the sport. Allen also stated that his camp was exclusively non-profit and that he was extremely pleased with the level of support he received. He stated that Dr. Philmore Benjamin was a major sponsor of his camp and he wanted to express sincere gratitude to him for his contribution. He also expressed gratitude to Frankie of Island Originals and ‘Nato’ Maynard of Top Ranking Ltd. Many parents and persons in the community also support Allen and his team by assisting with snacks. The cooking team included Mrs. Basil Allen, Joanne Byam and Gwenneth Pelle. These persons ensure that the coaches and youngsters are well fed on a daily basis.
Tamo’s Easter Football Camp will run for three weeks from 10am-2pm on Mondays-Fridays. Allen’s technical team includes Nyron Michael (coach), Paul Cornelius (Assistant Coach), Conroy Watkins (Technician), Tanaijah Allen (Assistant) and Basil Tamo Allen (organiser and coach).
The Ministry of Sports endorses this programme and provides technical assistance to aid in healthy development among community youths. The Planning Unit of the Ministry of Sports congratulates Mr. Allen in a special way for his dedication to community youths and for creating yet another youth initiative programme.
