THE MINISTRY OF SPORTS MOURNS THE PASSING OF CRICKETER, COACH AND PAST COORDINATOR - MR. HAYDEN WALSH Monday 11th January 2010
The Honourable Dr. Jacqui Quinn Leandro and Senator the Honourable Winston Williams Jr. joined the rest of the cricketing fraternity in expressing condolences to the family of Mr. Hayden Walsh after learning of his sudden passing on Saturday January 9, 2010.
Mr. Walsh who was well known to the cricketing fraternity as an accomplished cricketer at both the local and Leeward Islands level served for many years in the Ministry of Sports as a Sports Coach and Cricket Coordinator.
Both Ministers acknowledged Mr. Walsh’s significant contribution to the sport as a player and more so to the development of cricket through his work with the Ministry of Sports, the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association and his own private initiative, the Antigua Technical Cricket Academy. Both policy makers affirmed that the passion demonstrated by Hayden for the sport of cricket and its development, particularly through his work with hundreds of young men across the island is expected to remain in the memories of all he came into contact with for a lifetime.
Mr. Walsh, who was forty-six years old at the time of his passing, was also leading the charge on behalf of the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association, in formulating a Youth Development Programme for Cricket in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports.
Hayden or 'Shalo' as he was fondly known will be sadly missed by all in the sporting fraternity and his work with the youth cricket development programme is expected to continue to bear fruit well into the future.
