MORE ATHLETES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ALBA GAMES IN VENEZUELA

The Embassy of Venezuela has made additional arrangements for more Antiguan and Barbudan Athletes to participate in the ALBA Games due to begin this weekend. A special charter flight has been arranged to depart this weekend and return July 30. Late yesterday afternoon, the Ministry received confirmation from the Venezuelan Embassy that the delegation can be as many as 90 in a range of sports. The Government of Venezuela will cover flight tickets, internal transportation, accommodations, meals, insurance and medical services. The sports will include:
1. Athletics - Track and Field ( M, F, Y)
2. Handball
3. Boxing
4. Triathlon
5. Open Water Swimming
6. Baseball
7. Volleyball - Male and Female
8. Beach Volleyball
9. Canoeing
10. Cycling - Track, Road, BMX, Mountain Bike
11. Judo
12. Karate
13. Swimming (Pool)
14.Softball
15. Tennis
16. Table Tennis

As a result of the short time period, the Sports Department is kindly requesting the assistance of ALL Stakeholders to assist in identifying athletes (with Antiguan and Barbudan nationality) and Coaches/Officials ( Antiguan and Barbudan nationality not required) who are prepared to participate in and stay in Venezuela for the entire Games ( approx 2 weeks). All interested athletes and coaches will be required to bring in their passports to the Ministry Headquarters at Cassada Gardens this morning to make preparations for the charter which could depart as early as this evening or as late as tomorrow afternoon.
