WICB MEDIA RELEASE: POWER HITTER POLLARD WANTS TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Monday 6th June 2011

Power hitter Pollard wants to make an impact

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – West Indies allrounder Kieron Pollard is excited about the possibilities in the five upcoming Digicel Pearls Series One Day Internationals against India.

The powerful six-footer had a good work-out on Sunday morning as Windies had a full three-hour training session at Queen’s Park Oval. The home side will be looking for a winning start when the series bowls off on Monday at the historic venue.

First ball is 9 am (8 am Jamaica Time).

“I have been training well and batting well so I’m eagerly looking ahead to this series. My form is there and I’m hitting the ball well. It’s a matter of me trying to get off to a good start and try to get the team off to a winning start when things kick off tomorrow [Monday]. I’m looking to do well and make a positive impact for the West Indies. There is a lot of cricket to be played and, as a team, we are really looking forward to playing against the Indians,” the 24-year-old said.

“We have a very good team. We have a lot of players who have done well at the international level and I’m sure they will be looking for more good performances at this level. We are fully aware of what is required and we will be looking to go out and do the job for the people of the West Indies.”

Pollard has become world-famous for his power-hitting. He is also a clever medium-pacer and an excellent outfielder. He said he will be looking to contribute in all three departments. On Monday he will be playing in front his countrymen in Trinidad and for him, that will make the occasion extra special.

“Playing at home is always special for me in front of friends and family and people I have known all my life. The key is to get off to a good start and maintain that momentum. The Indians have a good bunch of guys and they are a young team. They have a lot of talent, but what we will try to do is plan well and exploit any the weaknesses in their team.”
