HOSPICE RECEIVES $3500 FOR RESOURCE ROOM
Tuesday 16th April 2013

Since opening on January 1, 2012, St. John Hospice has continued to grow and serve more families of Antigua and Barbuda. This continued growth has led to an increase need for resources and information on grief as well as the death and dying process. A recent grant from the American University of Antigua (AUA) will assist in creating a resource area featuring published literature and original brochures and books designed specifically for St. John Hospice. Dr. Shannon Nanna, AUA’s Faculty Liaison working with St. John Hospice, maintains that the $3500 ECD AUA grant will allow Antiguan and Barbudan patients and families to receive helpful information about issues they might encounter during their Hospice stay.

Mrs. Jane George-John, Hospice Administrator, is working closely with Dr. Nanna to develop a program that will utilize AUA medical student volunteers to assist in creating the literature and disseminating information to patients and their families. AUA medical student volunteers would work with patients, families and staff at Hospice as part of AUA’s service learning initiative better known as AUA’s Community Outreach Program.
