HALIBORANGE ESSAY COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCED Friday 18th January 2013
On the heels of the successful 6th Annual Spelling Bee held in conjunction with the Rotaract Club of Antigua, Seven Seas is at it again. This time, through its local distributor Frank B Armstrong, the literacy project of choice was an essay competition open to students between the ages of 9 and 12 years.
Participants were encouraged to submit a 300-400 word essay on the topic: If you could teach the world about Omega 3, how would you do it and what would you teach them? Up for grabs was an Apple Ipad 3 for the lucky winner. The local winner was automatically entered into a regional competition to compete with other submissions from other participating islands for the grand prize of a family vacation package for four to Disney World Orlando, Florida.
The local competition began in November 2012 when students were encouraged by Ministry of Education Officials to participate in the exciting competition. Twenty two schools participated and after all the submissions were graded, the school that submitted the most entries produced the eventual winner. Sethson Burton, 12 year old second form student of the Antigua Grammar School won himself the coveted prize.
