AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF ANTIGUA (AUA) AND AMSA (AMERICAN MEDICAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION) HEALTH FAIR
Tuesday 21st June 2011

Each year, the American University of Antigua (AUA) and AMSA (American Medical Student Association) reach out to the Antiguan community by offering free medical exams during AUA-AMSA Health Fairs to any interested citizens.
These Health Fairs are quickly becoming an island tradition, having occurred every year since 2006. What started as a small philanthropic event has grown into a large, enthusiastic event that takes over the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre in Perry Bay. Both the Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Health have attended past Health Fairs.

The general public is invited to have their vital signs screened free of charge by the students. Persons attending will be greeted by a student and subsequently taken to the various stations where their blood pressure, weight, eyes and glucose level will be checked in sequence. In the end they will be able to interact with doctors and get education of the overall health.

The AMSA - AUA Health Fair Teams have a longstanding working relationship with various professional groups. A few of these groups are:

  • JCI Antigua
  • Caribbean Glaucoma Society/Lion’s Club JCI Antigua
  • AIDS Secretariat
  • Society of Diabetes
  • Breast Friends
  • Antigua & Barbuda HIV/AIDS network
  • Rotary
  • Antigua Sickle Cell Association

We are encouraging all interested persons to be there between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 2nd 2011 to receive this personalized care and attention from the students, doctors and support staff of the American University of Antigua.

A complimentary shuttle (donated by Lowger Buslines) will run from East Bus station to the Multi Purpose Centre at 08:50 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. The return transfers from MPC back to East Bus Station will be at 10:30 a.m. and  12:30 p.m. Over 400 persons visited the Multi Purpose Centre during the most recent Health Fair held in March.
