ANTIGUA FOR SAILORS
Friday 10th February 2017

Article taken from the Evening Standard - It’s a big year for Antigua, a Caribbean favourite with sailors from around the world. 2017 sees the 50th Edition of Antigua Sailing Week, the 30th anniversary of Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and the first year of what organisers hope will become an annual Antigua to Bermuda race, timed to tie in with the America’s Cup, the Formula One of sailing, held this June in Bermuda.

Antigua’s historical sites include Nelson’s Dockyard, named for Lord Nelson who was stationed there in 1784 and now restored as the oldest working Georgian dockyard in the world. The island caters for all levels of sailors from world class mariners to weekend yachties.

Whether you are hoping to mix in with Ben Ainslie types - he is the captain of GB’s America’s Cup team and the most successful ever Olympic sailor, winner of four gold medals - or simply meet others happy to mess about in boats, see where to head on the island here.
