ABTA’S CARNIVAL-CRICKET PROMOTION A SWEET SUCCESS
Tuesday 13th August 2013

Congratulations to Giselle Alleyne, of Trinidad and Tobago, who was the lucky winner of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority’s, ‘Come for Carnival, Stay for Cricket’ Promotion!

Giselle and a guest of her choice travelled to our beautiful twin islands and witnessed first-hand why Antigua’s Carnival is the Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Festival.

The Carnival/Cricket promotion winners and CMC reps were able to liaise for a photo op during a prize presentation ceremony held at Myst Mas Camp Headquarters.

Giselle won the Carnival/Cricket promotion by ‘Liking’ the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Facebook page and posting a comment stating why she saw Antigua and Barbuda as the ‘Ultimate Destination for Carnival and Cricket!’

She noted, “Antigua is one of my favourite destinations in the region and I am so excited to be here to have the chance to experience the Carnival and the Cricket.”

Giselle’s answer was full of enthusiasm and passion for Antigua Carnival and cricket. Here’s a little of what Giselle wrote:

“Antigua and Barbuda is the ultimate destination for Carnival and Cricket! Antigua and Barbuda Carnival is about creativity, rhythm, music, revelry, theatre, fun, colour, and the ability to be free and display yourselves to levels you can only dream about; there may be other carnivals but Antigua and Barbuda carnival has its own uniqueness that can never be experienced elsewhere in the world.”

Giselle and Natasha Alleyne from Trinidad and Tobago won air fare compliments LIAT - The Caribbean Airline, accommodation at Jolly Beach Resort & Spa, handsets from LIME, Carnival event tickets, and Carnival costumes to jam with Myst Mas Band.

Additionally, the lucky winners also experienced more of what the destination has to offer as they took a guided tour of the island with the first stop being Stingray City Antigua Snorkel Adventure.

Marketing Manager of the Tourism Authority, Mrs. Charmaine Spencer commented, “The destination promotion was a great success in that it reinforced to the regional and international markets that Antigua & Barbuda is major player in the Caribbean for Carnival and Cricket. Another positive outcome was that the promotion drove thousands of potential visitors to our social media networks.”

The promotion saw persons from within the region, as well as persons from the UK and the US who did not even qualify, but took the time out to comment on the Tourism Facebook page as to why Antigua & Barbuda is the Ultimate Destination for Carnival and Cricket.

Also on island to capture the Carnival festivities were representatives from Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), who covered a number of the Carnival shows as well as the Carnival parade on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. CMC will air a segment on their Soca Scene programme which will feature the ABTA destination promotion as well as the highlights for Antigua’s Carnival 2013.

The ABTA would like to thank all of the sponsors involved in the promotion and the participants for making this destination promotion such as success because without their partnership and participation it would not have been possible.
