40+ UK TRAVEL PROFESSIONALS EXPERIENCE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA Thursday 20th June 2013
Over 40 UK Travel Professionals Gain First-Hand Knowledge of Antigua and Barbuda
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s UK office, will continue its two-month run of familiarisation trips into June, allowing more than forty UK travel professionals to experience Antigua first-hand.
Going ahead later this month, will be familiarisation trips (fams) catering to the Luxury market and the Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) market.
The two trips will involve twenty UK travel specialists in the areas of luxury and incentive travel.
The trips follow on from the recently concluded, Antigua 365 Mega Fam, where thirty of the destination’s top-selling travel agents and tour operators, were brought to Antigua having individually made three or more bookings to the destination during the winter booking period.

Marketing Manager of the UK Tourist Office, Cherrie Osborne said “The ability to bring our travel partners to the destination is key to our marketing. Not only do the familiarisation trips serve as an incentive, motivating agents to book the destination for a place on the fam, they are also a means by which we educate and train agents on the destination and hotel product.”
The Luxury and MICE trips will take place over a week, with the specialists seeing a collective ten hotels during their stay.
Itineraries have been set to ensure the groups experience the entire island, and the various hotel offerings to suit the needs of their client base.
Osborne noted that “The first-hand experience the agents receive on these trips is extremely beneficial; increasing their destination and product knowledge, so they can sell the product with confidence.”

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority's FAM trips have been made possible with the support of partners to include British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Head Office and the Antigua Hotel and Tourist Association.
Additional FAMS are being planned throughout the year with partners, as the office continues to push the destination’s hotel and tourism product.
CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James added that the renewed FAM trip focus from the UK office reinforces the key principle that "travel agents sell what they know." The destination will always receive an excellent return on its investment in the travel trade by ensuring that high-performing travel agents are given first-hand exposure to all that Antigua and Barbuda has to offer.
