OUTSTANDING INDUSTRY PERSONNEL HONORED AT TOURISM AWARDS GALA Wednesday 27th June 2012
The Ministry of Tourism held the National Tourism Awards Gala at Sandals Grande Mediterranean on Wednesday.
During the ceremony Tourism Awards were presented to Industry Personnel that have demonstrated best practices, outstanding commitment to the industry, personal integrity and service both in and outside of their professional environment.
Tony Johnson, owner of Siboney Hotel received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Johnson has contributed over 50 years of service to the tourism industry and was instrumental in the construction of several hotel properties to include Long Bay Hotel, the Inn at English Harbour and Admirals Inn.
Johnson is also a pioneer in the water sports industry and is an active member of the Antigua Hotel & Tourist Association.Maurine Bowers of Galley Bay received the Chef of the Year accolade and is the first female to accept the prestigious award. Kemberly Greenaway, a flight attendant from LIAT was named Tourism employee of the year.
Coleen Samuel from Verandah Resort received the Hotel Employee of the Year award.
Curtain Bluff’s George Long received the title of Young Hotelier of the Year; while Lana Williams won the Chef’s World Award for Most Promising Chef and Maurice Francis won the Tourism Personality of the Year accolade.
Landscaping supervisor, of Hermitage Bay, Clinton “John” Roberts received the Hotel Supervisor of the Year award. Tourism Ministry awards were also handed out with Sustainable Tourism going to Galley Bay Resort, Partnership in Tourism given to Turner’s Beach Bar & Restaurant, and Excellence in Customer Service received by Percival’s Enterprises Ltd.
