ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA ELECTED TO CHAIR CTO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM COMMITTEE Wednesday 18th April 2012

Antigua and Barbuda’s Director of Policy and Planning within the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Corthwright Marshall has been elected to chair the CTO Sustainable Tourism Committee for the next two years at the 13th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development in Guyana.
The CTO’s Sustainable Development Committee is responsible for discussing and shaping the regional organization’s sustainable tourism policy and work program.
The region’s sustainable tourism policy seeks to ensure the optimal use of natural, cultural, social and financial resources for national development on an equitable and self sustaining basis with the ultimate objective to provide a unique visitor experience and an improved quality of life through partnerships among government, the private sector and communities.
Corthwright Marshall who served as Chair of the CTO Board of Directors and Chair of CTO Executive Committee from 2008-2010 is also expected to work with CTO’s Tourism Specialist, Gail Henry, to plan the annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development for the next two years.
The 13th annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development featured several local and regional dignitaries, including acting President of Guyana, Mr. Sam Hinds; the acting Tourism Minister, Hon. Irfaan Ali and the Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Hon. Ricky Skerritt.
The theme for the 2012 conference is “keeping the Right Balance: Sustaining our Resources”.
