ANTIGUA & BARBUDA WELCOMES KENT CRICKET CLUB Tuesday 13th March 2012
The Ministry of Tourism welcomes The Kent County Cricket Club to Antigua & Barbuda.
The Hon. John Maginley - Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation & Culture, in an effort to market Antigua & Barbuda as a sporting events destination, sent Ms. Karen Joseph - Sports Tourism Officer and Sir Vivian Richards to London last year to promote the destination to prospective Schools and Sports Clubs.
The twenty (20) members of Kent County Team arrived on March 7, 2012 on Virgin Atlantic at VC Bird International Airport. Minister Maginley stated that he is very pleased that Kent is the first County team that is using the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds for their pre-season training and would like to officially welcome the players and management to Antigua & Barbuda. “We look forward to many more cricket teams using the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Antigua & Barbuda for training” the Minister continued.
The team is lead by a former West Indies Cricketer, Jimmy Adams who is no stranger to Antigua & Barbuda. The team is staying at the Grand Pineapple Resort & Spa. Another team is scheduled to arrive in July. The Ministry of Tourism is looking forward to creating this partnership which will place Antigua & Barbuda on the map as the sporting events capital of the region.
