Four member crew from the USA's currently on island filming a 30-minute feature on Sports Fishing in Antigua. Since arriving the crew from Bonnier Corporation has been out fishing every day at one of Antigua’s premier off-shore fishing spots; an area called South Bank situated 14 miles south of Antigua.

“The location is ideal for fishing because there is a natural bank that measures from some 300ft to 1000ft which acts like a mountain on water and the wind pushes the fish up.” Said Phillip Shoul, Chairman of the Antigua & Barbuda Sports Fishing Association.

“The crew is having a great time. They have been especially impressed with our anchorage. They say our marinas are first class. What’s very encouraging is that they have commented specifically on the safety and nightlife. This coming from well travelled anglers really is positive news.” continued Shoul.

The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority worked in conjunction with the Sports Fishing Association to bring the film crew to Antigua.

‘Sports fishing is a lucrative niche market to be in and we are serious about cementing Antigua & Barbuda as a major player in attracting this business. Anglers visit a destination primarily for the fishing but the land based activities must be first class to ensure that the word circulates within the fraternity that Antigua & Barbuda is the place to be. The crew has captured breath-taking footage of the island from sea and in addition they have shots of the destination as a whole to ensure we get first class exposure.” Said Kimberley Bowers, Marketing Manager, Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.

While in Antigua the crew will tour the island taking in popular tourist spots including Shirley’s Heights, the Dow’s Hill Interpretation Centre, Fig Tree Drive, Devil’s Bridge and shopping in St. John’s.
The feature will be broadcast on the Versus Network in the USA in the first and second quarter of 2010 as part of a 13 week series on Sports Fishing. It will also be aired on Sports Fishing TV and the Sun Sports Network.
