A 20/20 MASTERS CRICKET FESTIVAL WITH A DIFFERENCE Friday 11th November 2011
In order to increase Sports Tourism on the Island, the Ministry of Tourism has partnered with
Richie Richardson Sports & Leisure along with Indigo Event Services to bring a 20/20 Masters Cricket Festival with a difference – combining cricket and music.
For the first time, the event will be hosting the world renowned Third World group who will be performing live in concert. ‘Word - of - mouth’ advertising is one of the most credible forms of advertising.
Thus, in an effort to promote Antigua & Barbuda, the team along with family and friends are given a memorable experience while in Antigua & Barbuda during and after the festival, with the aim that they will tell their family and friends back home about our twin island paradise.
The Lashings World X1 who is considered to be the world’s greatest cricket club will be attending the cricket festival this year. Based in Maidstone, Kent, the team has attracted a number of famous international cricketers and other celebrities to its ranks, starting with Richie Richardson, and including Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Aravinda De Silva,
Tatenda Taibu, Chris Cairns, Gordon Greenidge, Jimmy Adams, Henry Olonga, Javagal Srinath, Courtney Walsh, Allan Donald, Shoaib Akhtar and Sir Viv Richards. Also, a hosts of other teams regionally and internationally will be participating - including the Barbados Masters, Mississauga Ramblers, New Jersey Masters, New York Mastres, Veteran’s Sports Club, Combined Masters coming up against our own Antigua Masters and Antigua Legends including - Curtly
Ambrose, Kenny Benjamin, Dave Joseph, Ridley Jacobs, Anthony Martin, Anthony Merrick, Devon Thomas, GavinTonge, Hamish Anthony, Rolston Otto, Winston Benjamin, Austin Richards Jnr.
There will be a welcome reception and cocktail sponsored by the Sugar Ridge Hotel on Tuesday November 15th. Each team will then play a total of three (3) matches with a rest day on Friday 18th November, where they will enjoy a party cruise sponsored by the Wadadli Cats. Then the highlight of the week, a live concert featuring Third World takes place on Saturday 19th November and is open to the General Public. The festival ends with a prize giving ceremony on Sunday November, 20th Chickie Hi Fi will party through the night.
