YOUTH INVITED TO VIE FOR THE TITLE OF ANTIGUA & BARBUDA’S JUNIOR MINISTER OF TOURISM, 201/2012.
Wednesday 27th July 2011

A special invitation is extended to students between the ages of 14 and 17 to participate in a training exercise which will lead to the selection of Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Minister of Tourism, 2011/2012.

The student to gain the title will represent the country at the upcoming Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Tourism Youth Congress, a special activity on the programme of the organisation’s first state of the industry conference to be held in St. Martin, September 15-17, 2011.

The Youth Congress is scheduled to resume after a two-year break. Prior to that break, Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Ministers of Tourism over the period, 2005 – 2008, performed creditably. Andrena Athill of Christ the King High School (2006)  and Kaeiron Saunders-Rogers of Antigua Girls’ High School (2008)  were among the top three in the regional competition. Chrystal Jeffery of Sir McChesney George Secondary School, Barbuda,  and Lynda Ozuomba of Christ the King High School were our Junior Ministers of Tourism, 2005 and 2007 respectively.

The Youth Congress is structured in such a way, so as to mirror a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting.   During the Congress, the Junior Ministers/Commissioners of Tourism representing CTO member countries discuss in a round-table setting, tourism issues researched prior to the Congress. In addition to the research topics, each country representative is expected to have a good knowledge of tourism to be able to astutely respond to a “mystery” question.

All eligible students are encouraged to respond positively to the invitation. The Ministry of Tourism will bring together all those who have indicated their interest for training, selection and naming of Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Minister of Tourism, 2011/2012. Deadline date to confirm interest is Friday July 29th, 2011, and can be done by either calling the Ministry of Tourism, at 462 0480/463 9522 OR sending an e-mail to simoncynthia09@gmail.com.
