SCOUTING FOR ANTIGUA BARBUDA'S JUNIOR MINISTER OF TOURISM, 2011/2012 Wednesday 20th July 2011
Plans are in place for the selection of a student to be appointed as Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Minister of Tourism 2011/2012, to represent the country at the upcoming Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Tourism Youth Congress. After a two-year break, CTO’s Youth Congress will return and will be a featured activity at the organization’s first state of the industry conference to be held in St. Martin, September 15 – 17, 2011.
Prior to the two-year break for the CTO Youth Congress, Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Ministers of Tourism over the period 2005 to 2008 performed creditably at the Congress. Gaining 2nd place in 2006 was Andrena Athill of Christ the King High School and in 2008 was Kaeiron Saunders-Rogers of the Antigua Girls’ High School. For their achievement, they each received a laptop computer and monetary award.
The Youth Congress is structured in such a way, so as to mirror a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting. During the Congress, the Junior Ministers/Commissioners of Tourism representing CTO member countries discuss in a round-table setting, tourism issues researched prior to the Congress. In addition to the research topics, each country representative is expected to have a good knowledge of tourism to be able to astutely respond to a “mystery” question.
The Ministry of Tourism is seeking to bring together as many students as possible to go through a process of training and selection of Antigua & Barbuda’s Junior Minister of Tourism 2011/2012. Eligible students must be between the ages of 14 and 17. All eligible and interested students are kindly asked to indicate their interest by either calling the Ministry of Tourism, at 462 0480/463 9522 OR send an e-mail to simoncynthia09@gmail.com by Friday July 29 th, 2011.
