Antigua and Barbuda received significant exposure last weekend, at The Caribbean Bridal and Marketplace Expo in San Juan Puerto Rico. The Ministry of Tourism regional sales team, headed by Ms. Joyce Henry and Ms. Annette Michael positioned Antigua & Barbuda as the best Wedding and Honeymoon destination in the Eastern Caribbean. The duo promoted the uniqueness of weddings and honeymoons in Antigua and Barbuda, in addition to the same day marriage facilities that we offer.
More than 1500 patrons at the event eagerly collected destination information on wedding and honeymoon specials and deals that several hotels offered. Ms. Henry stated that the effects of the current global economy was indeed evident in the number of participants at the exhibition. Nevertheless, Antigua and Barbuda was among, other desti-nations such as Nevis, the USVI, Barbados, and The Bahamas vying for the lucrative Puerto Rican market. Ms. Henry also outlined that one of the highlights at the show was the opportunity for the team had to interact with the consumers, in addition to answering questions such as geographical location and night life in our twin island state.
The Minister of Tourism – Hon John Maginley in recognizing the importance of developing the regional market, stated, that there is a clear opportunity for increased market share from Puerto Rico and The USVI and a vast op-portunity for airline partnership in growing these regional markets.
The Ministry of Tourism sales team is actively executing the first half of its regional sales plan in an effort to generate a compulsion for travel to Antigua and Barbuda for Sailing Week, Romance Month and Carnival 2011!
