UK SUMMER ARRIVES EARLY WITH LAUNCH OF SUMMER GOLD 2011

The UK should expect lots of sunshine and warm weather this spring, when the Antigua and Barbuda UK Tourist Office, launches the 2011 Summer Gold Discount Card, with a hot summer-themed soiree.
“We are extremely thrilled to be offering the Summer Gold discount cards, once again to persons travelling to Antigua and Barbuda from June 1 – September 30 2011” said Hilary Modeste, UK Director of Tourism for the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority.
Over 3000 Summer Gold cards have been produced for the promotion and are ready to be distributed.
The Summer Gold card created in 2010 provides visitors to the island with discounts at restaurants, excursions, spas, car dealerships and shops across Antigua.
With Antiguanice.com and the Antigua Hotel and Tourist Association (AHTA) on board with the promotion for another time, holiday-makers will also benefit from complimentary free nights being provided by hotels during the promotion period.
“During the summer, we know that business generally does tend to slow down from a tourism standpoint. Summer Gold is a great way to provide added-value to persons booking holidays to Antigua, while ensuring that our on-island accommodation and tourism service providers generate additional business during the off peak months” said Modeste.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourist Office is already in receipt of a number of exciting offers from tourism related businesses in the country.
According to project coordinator Maria Blackman, “Private sector participation is vital to the success of this project. The overwhelming support received in 2010 from Antiguanice.com and the AHTA, ensured that discounts were enticing enough to encourage our visitors to grab their Summer Gold cards, step off of the beach, and into a store, a restaurant or unto a catamaran. We are hoping we can achieve greater success this year.”

In 2010, 33 tourism-related businesses and 40 hotel properties participated in the promotion. A number of businesses reported benefitting from purchases made by Summer Gold discount card holders.
