ANTIGUA & BARBUDA TO BE FEATURED ON SPORTS FISHING TV
Thursday 27th January 2011

Minister Winston Williams, Colin C. James and Phillip Shoul Greet Crew from Sports Fishing TV as they Arrive at VC Bird International Airport

Antigua & Barbuda will once again be featured in an episode of Sports Fishing TV. The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority and the Antigua & Barbuda Sports Fishing Association have partnered to contract Sports Fishing TV to cover a feature on shallow fishing in Antigua.

The 4 man crew arrived in Antigua on Monday 24th January 2011 and were met at the V.C. Bird International Airport by the Minister of Sports, Honourable Winston Williams, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Sports Fishing Association, Phillip Shoul and CEO Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James.

“Sports Fishing TV is for serious anglers and when these guys recommend a destination for sports fishing it carries a lot of weight. The average Sports Fishing visitor is very valuable to a destination. They spend considerable sums in the hiring of boats and equipment. This is definitely a niche market that we intend to develop further” Said Colin C. James.

Honourable Winston Williams, Minister of Sports commended the visitors for their work in promoting the destination as a first class Sports Fishing destination. “I am always happy to welcome Sports Fishing enthusiasts visit our shores. The fact that the fish are thrown back into the waters means that the industry is sustainable and that is very important to the Government of Antigua & Barbuda”. Said Honourable Winston Williams.

Minister Williams also indicated that the Government had already embarked on teaching children to swim and sail and that perhaps angling would be a natural progression.

The crew will spend five days fishing in shallow waters off Antigua. The footage gathered will capture the spectacular views of the island from sea. The Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism have also arranged a land-based island tour so that tourism highlights of the island will also be featured as part of the episode.

The episode featuring fishing in Antigua will air on the Versus TV Network on 5th March 2011 at 7:30pm.
