ANTIGUA ART WEEK OPENING Monday 17th April 2023

Antigua showed her true colours at the opening of the inaugural Antigua Art Week on April 16th. Swirling dresses, spinning parasols, music and well-chosen words from Minister of Tourism Charles Max Fernandez and the ABTA’s jauntily-attired Colin James declared the week well and truly open!
With works from some of Antigua’s finest artists, the evening at Boom was a riot of colour and joy that brought this year’s theme to life: “ Culture in Colour” really says it all. Overlooking English Harbour’s improbably blue waters and the hills beyond, The Boom at Gunpowder House could not have shown Antigua to greater advantage. Restaurant, hotel and spa, that night it was transformed into an art gallery. Works from Stephen Murphy, Gilly Gobinet, Mark Brown, to name only a few, brought not a few oohs and aahs. There were paintings to make you laugh, abstracts, landscapes, portraits, showcasing many different styles and media, every one a masterpiece. As the minister said “art brings out……what is Antigua and Barbuda.”
