TOURISM AUTHORITY ENCOURAGES GREATER VISITOR AWARENESS FOR UPCOMING SEASON
Friday 22nd October 2010

Tourism Authority Encourages Greater Visitor Awareness
For Upcoming Season

(St. John’s, Antigua, 20th October 2010) The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority today unveiled a series of public service announcements aimed at sensitizing the general public to the importance of tourism to the economy of Antigua & Barbuda and advocating positive interactions with our visitors to safeguard and build our tourism product. The campaign which is due to begin airing on ABS television today features various representatives from Government and the private sector to deliver the message from their individual perspective.

“While we all have a vague idea of the contribution of tourism to the economy, these public service announcements are designed to drive home the facts, give actual statistics and dollar amounts to grab the viewers’ attention. As a result we hope to encourage a heightened sense of awareness of the role that each of us can play in creating an exceptional visitor experience and safeguarding this important industry.” said Kimberley Bowers, Marketing Manager, Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.

Honourable John Maginley, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Civil Aviation expressed his support for the awareness campaign.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season with great anticipation. Over the summer a huge amount of groundwork went into ensuring the continued growth of our visitor arrivals. We hosted many familiarisation and press trips and we were successful in securing additional airlift from our largest source markets; UK and USA. All this effort to get visitors here must be backed up by the exceptional visitor experience that they encounter when they arrive.” said Minister Maginley.

The public service announcements feature messages from a bank manager, taxi driver, restaurant owner, customs officer, immigration officer, vendor and entertainer. Each delivers a personal appeal to the general public to support tourism.
