ANTIGUA HOTELS & TOURIST ASSOCIATION TARGETS THE REGION
Tuesday 23rd February 2010
Last Saturday February 20th, 2010, the annual A & A Tours Travel Trade Show was held at the Convention Centre in San Juan. Representatives from the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association, Neil Forrester and Anthea Watkins, and Jolly Beach Resort & Spa – Andrea Jeremiah were present promoting Antigua & Barbuda as a holiday destination to over two hundred travel agents from Puerto Rico.
According to the travel agents, many Puerto Ricans are seeing the Caribbean as a family destination and Antigua & Barbuda is becoming quite popular because of its relaxed atmosphere and white sand beaches. The agents were impressed with the promotional literature about the twin island state and the wide range of hotels and activities being offered. Certain of the island’s hotels have put together “specials” specifically for the Puerto Rico travel market in order to increase arrival numbers for the upcoming spring and summer months.
“Puerto Ricans are great cruise travelers due to fact that many of the Caribbean cruise lines depart from San Juan so many know of Antigua as a day stop. They are looking for new destinations for short breaks and with two of airline partners LIAT and American Eagle flying regularly from San Juan to Antigua great opportunities exist for us. This show has given us the opportunity to show the agents that we have so much to offer to their clients who are looking for a new exciting destination.” Said Neil Forrester after returning from San Juan.
The AH&TA continues its efforts in promoting Antigua & Barbuda in the region partnering with the A.B.T.A. at regional and international trade shows and as part of their marketing strategy. AH&TA is set to participate at the “ I am a Woman, Bridal Show “ to be held in Trinidad in March, marketing Antigua & Barbuda as an ideal wedding and honeymoon destination.
