Friday 29th July 2011
Eighteen (18) Front Desk Representatives now join the pool of Certified Hospitality and Tourism In-dustry workers to have gained accreditation under the three-year Tourism Training and Certification Project co-sponsored by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture.
On July 28, 2011, a National Recognition Ceremony was held at the Warri Pier, Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts to congratulate and award the successful employees recently achieving designation as Certified Front Desk Representatives. Each received a Certificate and Lapel Pin to confirm their designation conferred by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AH&LEI).
An official welcome was given by Mrs. Cynthia Simon, Manager, Tourism Education, Training & Awareness. She gave recognition to the support and financial assistance the Ministry received from the Organization of American States (OAS) for executing the Capacity Building: Tourism Training and Certification Project. Mrs. Simon also read the congratulatory message on behalf of Ms. Louise John, Trainer for the workshop who sent her wishes to the awardees outlining that it is very rare to achieve 100% success within a workshop group and even more unusual to have no-one score under 80%. 11 persons scored 90% of whom over 6 scored near perfection - 97%.
Mr. Jean Ricot Dormeus, Organization of American States local representative in his congratulatory message said to the awardees “if you apply these skills, if you elevate yourselves to the standards you were taught, if you draw professional satisfaction in serving well your customers and brightening their days, then you will become ornate pillars in the Tourism mansion of Antigua and Barbuda”. He also impressed upon them that in times such as these, „we need great service to be the magnet that attracts visitors to Antigua and Barbuda.‟
Mr. Corthwright Marshall Director of Policy & Planning within the Ministry of Tourism expressed his excitement for being a part of the program and extended his congratulations to the awardees who now join the Antigua & Barbuda cadre of Certified Hotel Employees.
Certified Front Desk Representative Marlene James of Blue Waters, Antigua, gave the response on behalf of the Awardees while her counterpart Vilma Laurent of the Catamaran Hotel gave the appreciation on the Awardees‟ behalf.
