ANTIGUA CULINARY TEAM WIN SILVER AT TASTE OF THE CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL

September 13th, 2010 ….At a prize giving breakfast at the Rio Mar Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on Sunday the Antigua and Barbuda team was very happy to have won a Silver Medal, which placed them as one of the four national teams qualified for the individual competitions. Kerry-Anne Joseph, bartender at Sandals Grande, was the only female who competed in the bartender's competition and walked away with a Bronze medal.
Overall Antigua & Barbuda finished in the top four, which qualified the three chefs of the seven member team to battle on Sunday afternoon for the Caribbean Chef of the year title , whilst Pastry chef, Maureen Bowers of Sandals competed for the Caribbean Pastry Chef of the Year. The results will be announced on Sunday evening at a gala dinner.
The National Culinary Team left the island on Thursday for the Taste of the Caribbean Culinary competition in Puerto Rico between September 9 -12. Eleven nations from across the Caribbean were competing for prestigious Caribbean titles.
The competition is being held with a view to continuously raise the standards of Caribbean Food and beverage excellence and professionalism in the region, and is managed by the Caribbean Hotels and Tourism Association (CHTA.
The team comprised of Lead Chef Graham Singer, Executive Chef at BlueWaters , Charlesworth Jeremy Executive Sous Chef at Jumby Bay, Christopher Terry Chef at Sugar Ridge, Maureen Bowers, pastry chef at Sandals Grande Antigua, Kerry-Anne Joseph bartender at Sandals Grande Antigua and Kevan Ho a student at the Antigua and Barbuda Hosptitality Training Institute.
Andrew "Stan” Baxter Executive Sous Chef at Galley is the team manager. Also, in Puerto Rico with the team is Neil Forrester, General Manager, AHTA.
