DEFENDING CHAMP-HUGO B SET SAIL COMPETITIVELY

The Race is On… And the Captain and Crew of Antigua & Barbuda’s finest Cruise yacht, Hugo B, said they will not be banking on coincidence.

All hopes are now in the hands of the mixture of talents comprising, the years of experience, hard work, team cohesiveness and dedication which had over the past 12 years contributed to the 45 ft darling’s success.

In 2010, Hugo B, sailed away with all the prizes in all the available categories, to include Best Antigua Boat, Best Caribbean Boat, Best Boat over 20 years old, First in Class and First overall in fleet.

The experience of the crew range from 10 years to as high as 53 years, in sailing.

The defending champion, Hugo B, sailed   from the Falmouth Harbour for its’ first race, in the 44TH Annual Sailing Week on April 24th with its full compliment: -skipper and crew (all local).
The Captian & Crew were in high spirit as the class B yacht received race signal off Rendezvous Bay, shortly after 9:55 a.m.

In this year’s Sailing Week, Hugo B, will participate competitively in six races, the races and route are listed for April 24th, starting/finishing off Rendezvous Bay, April 25, one race starting/finishing off Wind Beach, Tuesday April 26th, two races starting/finishing off Rendezvous Bay  on April 28, Starting off Rendezvous Bay/finishing off Five Islands outside Jolly Harbour and the final race on April 29th, starting approximately 3 ½ miles Southwest of entrance to Jolly Harbour/finishing off Rendezvous Bay.

Comprising the crew, are Shawn Malone, Adrian "BM" Solomon, Jerome Bailey, Steve Smith, "Trooper" Brathwaite, "Bishop" Rhodes, "Naja" George, "Rusty" Pamphil, Franklyn Brathwaite, Ivor Jackson, Brian Sylvester from Grenada, lone female crew Heather Cooper, an Antiguan who lives in England. Cooper, is the holder of a private aircraft pilot license.
 Dr. John, who lives in the USA, would not be sailing this year.

Observer Media Group, Winston Derrick is on board the Hugo B, this year, as Captian Sir Hugh Bailey said, this is an effort to give non –sailors on the water experience.
Over the years, The Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Baldwin Spencer, the Speaker of the House D. Giselle Isaac and Senator Joanne Massiah, Minister of Finance and the Economy Harold Lovell have all sailed the Hugo B, during the regatta.

Hugo B has received sponsorship from the Falmouth Harbour Marina.

The yacht also received support from LIAT the Caribbean Airlines, Karib Cable and Catamaran Hotel & Marina.
