Partially-completed fire fighting facility at Crabbs.
Peter Anthony, Chairman of Ondeck Group, announces that Ondeck Ocean Racing Antigua is setting up an STCW95 training facility at Crabbs in Antigua under the auspices of the MCA (UK marine coast guard) in close cooperation with the local Antiguan Department of Marine Services and with the assistance of numerous other governmental departments.
This will be the only facility of its sort in Antigua. It will offer the four key elements of STCW training – fire fighting, sea survival, first aid and personal safety and social responsibility. Being qualified in these areas is a necessity for people working on commercial vessels and it is a recognised global standard. Such qualifications will be of benefit to locals or overseas applicants wanting to find employment on yachts, super yachts and other commercial vessels or for yacht crews needing refresher courses, improved training and for existing workers on the island.
This training facility represents a big investment for Ondeck and confirms the company’s faith in the yachting industry in Antigua. And it continues Ondeck’s development of its training capabilities which already include accreditation to RYA/MCA Yachtmaster.
The current targeted opening date of the training facility is late November, 2010. For more complete details on the development of Ondeck’s STCW95 training facility, don’t miss next month’s issue of Antigua’s Yachting Insider!
