EC$ 6500 RAISED FOR ABSAR AT WOBBLY CLUB RACE Friday 8th March 2013
The Association of Yacht Support Services (AYSS) expressed delight in co-sponsoring The Wobbly Club Race in Antigua once again with co-sponsors Catamaran Marina, Newport Shipyard and Cambusa restaurant.
The theme of this year’s race was 'Swashbuckling Pirates', and the Skipper's Briefing saw 20 entries welcomed. Supplied with two sheets of ply the rafts began taking shape. When "Stop building" was announced a Concourse de Elegance paraded the vessels past onlookers to the beach.
The rafts then left the shores of Falmouth Harbour, with paddles, water canons, sails, bicycles and paddle wheels prominent on a number of the builds. When the rafts crossed the finish line - with bottle of Rum and an inflatable animal still on board - some only had mere pieces of the original build remaining.
Each entry was awarded a prize, but first place went to Chippy's 'White Pearl', second to Nahlin's 'Steamy II' along with the Best Bilge Rats, while Best Wooden Leg went to Deniki and first to sink going to 'HMS Rum Run II' - this happened to be the build with the bicycle paddle boat.
The generous support of the pirates, sponsors and volunteers resulted in a grand total of $6,500 being raised for Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue. AYSS also wish to thank the following for donating prizes: Hyde Sails UK, Freestyle, Seabreeze Cafe, Sweet T's, Skullduggery, Mad Mongoose, Quin Farara Liquor Store, Antigua Distilleries, Baileys Supermarket, AR Veal, The Hide Out, Lord Jim's Locker, Crab Hole and Dockside liquor Stores.
