ABSAR FUNDRAISING DINNER & DANCE Friday 12th March 2010
ABSAR is a non-profit, volunteer run, donation based charity, which provides search and rescue assistance to mariners in and around Antigua & Barbuda, and emergency medical care to the communities of English and Falmouth Harbours, with our Emergency Rescue Vehicle, and Medic Station at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina.
This last year alone, we responded to 225 calls; 186 emergency medical cases, 31 Emergency Rescue Vehicle call outs, 29 search and rescues, 1 medivac, 1 vessel Fire, and we supported 8 Regattas, including the new Caribbean RORC 600 race, Antigua Race Week and the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta.
Following the success of our fundraising dinner last year, we are planning a similar event on the 18th March, for 80-100 people, at the very beautiful Admirals Inn.ALL proceeds go directly to ABSAR, as the whole community comes together donating what they can to help make the evening a success, and keeping our costs low!
Yachts, Restaurants and Businesses will contribute the dinner, the band ‘Itchy Feet’ are donating the music, Premier Beverages the wine tasting, and Paul Deeth has kindly lent us the Admirals Inn venue.
The evening will start with a wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner on the terrace, and dancing to the stars…there will also be a silent auction of exquisite items and vacations.
The whole purpose of the evening is to raise much needed funds for ABSAR - a charity that relies solely on donations, and a team of committed volunteers, led by Jonathan Cornelius.
This year’s evening is in celebration of Rena Knight, whose tireless efforts for various charities, and her medical support to Yacht crews and the community, are part of the legacy for which she will always be remembered.
We really hope that you can help us make the evening the huge success it was last year, and keep this special service available to all …’so that others may live’.
