LETTER OF APPEAL FROM DR. ROBINS
Friday 6th April 2018

April 1st, 2018 - If you would like to help improve the lives of animals in Antigua & Barbuda, I encourage you to become a member of the Antigua & Barbuda Humane Society.

The Humane Society, established in 1991, is an animal welfare organization making a difference for all animals in Antigua and Barbuda through the prevention of cruelty and the protection of animals.

The Humane Society fosters appropriate relationships, between humans and animals, and encourages responsible animal ownership. It also supports government and community institutions with matters relating to the role of animals in society. Some of our ongoing projects include:

  • The operation of an animal shelter for cats and dogs
  • The operation of Antigua’s Donkey Sanctuary, home to approximately 150 donkeys. Visitors to the Donkey Sanctuary learn an appreciation of the special role donkeys have played in the development of our country
  • Regular low-cost spay and neuter clinics for dogs and cats
  • Re-homing/ adoption programme for the cats and dogs in our shelter
  • A continual education outreach programme to sensitize the public on the humane treatment and best quality of life for animals. We keep up-to-date on modern methods of animal care and continually improve our programmes

We remain committed to assisting our own public and visitors, with their concerns about our animals. We are also committed to spreading awareness with our visitors about some of the differences they may observe on how we care for our animals.

The Humane Society encourages compassion for animals. We are particularly concerned to instill kindness to animals in our children and believe that learning as children to be compassionate toward animals has a direct impact on our relationships with each other as we become adults.

By joining the Humane Society you show your support for the welfare of our country’s animals and for our social development. Your membership also gives you a voice in how we move forward.

Humane Society Membership is only EC$40.00 per year or you may opt to become a lifetime member for a one-time fee of EC$480.00. Your membership fees will greatly assist us with our shelter and outreach programmes. For more information on joining the Humane Society or on becoming a volunteer, please contact us at 461-4957 or abhumane@candw.ag.

One of the greatest gifts you can give is your time. We encourage you and look forward to you becoming a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society. Be an active participant in the advancement of animal welfare and the expansion of our social consciousness.

Thank you very much.
