FRANKLYN BRAITHWAITE ELECTED AS NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ABMA Sunday 13th February 2011
The Antigua & Barbuda Marine Association (ABMA), the organization dedicated to the responsible protection, enhancement and improvement of the marine industry and environment in Antigua & Barbuda, has for five years been headed up by president John Duffy and Vice President Helen Cools-Lartigue. At the yearly Annual General Meeting held in January, both announced their decision to stand down from their respective roles to make way for a new executive.
The new executive has taken the opportunity over the last three weeks to discuss how they want to operate going forward and to elect a new president and vice president. New interim president is long time member on the executive (and the first president when the organization was set up in 1991) Franklyn Braithwaite of A & F Sails. As a past Olympic sailor representing Antigua and Barbuda Braithwaite brings many years of experience, relationships and vision to the role. Vice President is now Tracy Guerrero who over the last five years has worked hard on the ABMA guide published yearly as a vital marketing tool and is currently working with ABS TV and Ministry of Tourism liason to the yachting industry, Jerry Daniels, on a television series in which Antiguans and Barbudans will get an insiders’ view of the marine industry in Antigua and its importance to the economy.
Along with the rest of the executive, comprising of key business stakeholders from the yachting communities across the island, the team has made the decision that all board members will play a more active role in the day to day running of the organisation and share responsibilities for key elements of the president’s role such as government advocacy, environmental issues, customs and immigration, security, marketing and general development of the yachting product.
The organization is actively seeking new members. Interested persons should contact the association office between 9am -1pm weekdays on 562-5085 or email info@abma.ag for more information.
