FRIENDS OF MSJMC DONATES ALMOST $40,000 IN EQUIPMENT TO SLBMC ONCOLOGY UNIT

The Friends of Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (FoMSJMC) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the nation’s healthcare system with a generous donation to the Oncology Unit at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC).
Valued at almost $40,000 XCD, the donation includes IV stands, clinical care recliners, an infusion pump, UV-resistant infusion macrobore set, wheelchairs, and a digital chair scale—all vital tools that will enhance patient care and comfort within the unit.
“This is why we do what we do,” said Dwayna Derrick, President of FoMSJMC. “When we see the impact these contributions have on patients and families, it motivates us to continue. Our work is fueled by community support, and every person who attends our events or contributes in any way is part of this difference.”
For the nurses and doctors working on the frontlines, the equipment is already making a profound difference. “These donations have a direct and meaningful impact on our patients’ experience,” shared Nurse Lisian Thomas, Nurse Manager of SLBMC’s Oncology Unit. “From comfort during long treatment sessions to improved efficiency in care, we truly value and appreciate the generosity of the Friends. Our patients and families feel it.”
The charity’s impact extends far beyond oncology. Over the years, their steady stream of support has equipped SLBMC to expand and improve services in multiple areas of care. “FoMSJMC raises funds solely for our hospital—and that is remarkable,” said Salma Crump, SLBMC Head of Marketing & Communications. “Their contributions have touched so many lives and allowed us to do more, not just in cancer care, but across our services. Their commitment, and their belief in the work we do, strengthens the hospital’s mission to bring quality healthcare closer to the people of Antigua & Barbuda.”
The public will soon have an opportunity to support this important work. On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Friends of Mount St. John’s Medical Centre will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their signature fundraiser — the Tickle Me Pink fete. Proceeds from this milestone event will go directly toward advancing cancer care at SLBMC.
“We invite everyone to join us—supporting this event means supporting patients, families, and the future of healthcare in Antigua & Barbuda,” Derrick added.
