FORT JAMES BEACH (FORT)

FORT JAMES OVERLOOKS THE BEACH

Fort James Beach, located at Fort Bay on the northwest coast of Antigua, is a favourite among both locals and visitors. It’s a lively spot where you can often join a game of volleyball or beach cricket.

The fort, built to guard St. John’s harbour, is one of many constructed by the British in the 18th century due to fears of a French invasion. Named after King James II of England, it features several cannons and the remains of the fort’s walls.

Today, Fort James is a popular tourist attraction, offering excellent views of the surrounding harbour. This beach is also popular with cruise ship visitors, being just a 5-10 minute drive from the cruise ship dock in St. John’s.

Visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Nearby, there are also some great spots to grab a bite to eat.
