BROADWINGED HAWK
This hawk is just over a foot in length when fully grown and often soars high over the ground, but it also rests on tree branches on the lookout for food. It is common resident of Antigua and may be located by its very high pitched shrill rising squeal. This bird has broad wings with dark and light bands on the tail. It inhabits wooded areas and fields, and dives for small rodents. However, it often strays to search for young chickens.
Special thanks to the late Desmond Nicholson of the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda and Peter Duce for making this section of Antigua Nice Ltd possible!
